Retail parcel volumes pushing “dramatic” expansion at Nightline
Irish parcel delivery company Nightline has said a big increase in business from the retail sector is prompting a “dramatic” expansion in its network. The firm said three of its seven Irish depots have now doubled in size, while a third has expanded by 50%.
This comes alongside a EUR 5.5m redevelopment of the company’s Dublin headquarters and a new multi-million pound site in Belfast that is three times larger than its previous facility in the Northern Irish city.
The latest expansion phase has seen Nightline’s Limerick site doubling in size to 16,000 square feet, its site in Sligo growing by more than double to 16,000 square feet and its depot in Cork growing from 16,000 square feet to 24,000 square feet.
Nightline’s plans for its Dublin site will see its depot footprint there growing by 40%.
The company’s CEO John Tuohy said the expansion came on the back of extra parcel volumes being carried on behalf of retail customers.
“We need to grow ourselves to have the capability of efficiently handling those extra volumes,” he said. “Given the nature of the increase which we’re seeing, we believe that it is not only sustainable, but likely to grow still further.”
In the last 12 months, Nightline’s CEO said his company had moved more than 11m parcels, with volumes propelled by new contracts with the likes of retailers Coast, Oasis, Warehouse and Karen Millen.
The company founded in 1992 is also now planning some “momentous shifts” in its operations during the course of the coming year, Tuohy hinted.
“We haven’t been content to sit still since we began, and we constantly strive not only to grow, but to improve the way we do business on behalf of clients,” he said.
