200,000 sign up for Post Denmark’s flexible parcel delivery

More than 200,000 people have now signed up to the new parcel receiving alternative from Post Danmark, Modtagerflex (Flexible Receiver). The universal service provider, part of PostNord, offers the service for consumers who cannot be at home to receive their parcels.

It allows householders to designate a safe place for mail carriers to leave their packages when recipients are not able to take delivery personally.

The Modtagerflex service has been taken up by about 13% of Danish households, with Post Danmark suggesting this is all of those that have a suitable shed, greenhouse, outhouse or playhouse in which parcels can be stowed.

Recently, as many as 500 Danes were signing up to the service each day.

Eva Marlene Hartmann, head of Post Danmark’s consumer division, said: “The trip to the post office or parcel shop to retrieve the latest purchases are being replaced for a great many Danes by a trip into the garage. It is easy, convenient, and so the scheme has been popular.”

Residents in suitable terraced and detached houses can join the Modtagerflex service via Post Danmark’s website, by phone or by filling out a registration form from a post office or mail carrier. When registering, users can nominate 10 different places where parcels could be left.

Post Danmark said the service has been a huge hit in the Jutland area and on the island of Funen, where 136,000 subscribers live, while 65,000 subscribers are located in the east of Denmark.

“We are constantly working on solutions that will support e-commerce and make it easy to send and receive mail,” said Hartmann.
