FedEx wins two World Mail Awards with SenseAware service

FedEx Corp took two World Mail Awards home after this evening’s annual ceremony recognising excellence in the global mail and express industry. The US integrator was rewarded in both the Innovation and Security categories for its SenseAware information service, which allows customers to keep close tabs on sensitive shipments in near real-time, using multi-sensor technology.

The World Mail Awards were unveiled at a glittering evening event at the President Wilson Hotel in Geneva, Switzerland.

Other winners in the nine main awards categories included Deutsche Post DHL, DPD Polska, Eesti Post, Kyburz DXP, Post Danmark, Saudi Post and Swiss Post.

Deutsche Post DHL received this year’s Growth award in recognition of its Premiumadress service, a real-time application that ensures mailers have the best possible valid address database from which to operate.

DPD Polska was awarded the People Management Award for its Project Maturity Way, an initiative from the Poland-based La Poste subsidiary that provides managers and staff with the necessary skills and tools to provide flexibility and high efficiency in delivering projects.

Eesti Post received its award in the Retail Project category, celebrating the Estonian postal operator’s Post24 parcel service, a network of 400 parcel terminals that offer customers 24-hour access to their parcels, and also the publicity campaign that has prompted good customer awareness about the service.

Swiss alternative vehicle producters Kyburz DXP received the Technology Award in this year’s World Mail Awards, for its work in addressing the changing requirements of last mile delivery with its electrical three-wheeler vehicle. The DXP can carry significant loads over long delivery ranges, while also proving highly safe and energy efficient.

Post Danmark won this year’s Customer Service award with its Reversed Targeted initiative, an unaddressed mail service that can exclude certain recipients so that delivery is more targeted to the right customers.

Saudi Post won this year’s E-commerce World Mail Award, recognising the success of its E-mall platform, which offers virtual shops for merchants encouraging retailers to make the move online with the support of payment facilities, technical support and delivery infrastructure.

Swiss Post won this year’s Corporate Social Responsibility award for its emission free mail delivery service, which has been established with targeted actions to cut carbon emissions, including the setting up of a fleet of electric vehicles.

Industry Leadership

A special industry leadership award this year went to Knud Børge Pedersen, the chief executive of Post Danmark, the 10th recipient of the award since 2003.

Pedersen was recognised for his efforts at a postal operator that has faced the severe challenges of a tough postal market and a weak economy in Denmark, while leading his company though transformation and merger with Sweden’s Posten to become something of a pioneer in modern postal practice.

Past recipients of the World Mail Award industry leadership award include Massimo Sarmi of Poste Italiane, Jean Paul Bailly of La Poste, John Potter of USPS and Klaus Zumwinkel of Deutsche Post.

Commenting on the awards, Neil Jackson, the chief executive of World Mail Awards organiser Triangle Management Services, publisher of Post&Parcel, said the award winners and 32 finalists showed the impressive results that could be achieved by bold and innovative mail and express companies.

“Our hearty congratulations to the highly deserving World Mail Award winners this year, who have all shown remarkable dedication to succeeding in a difficult market and a challenging economy this year,” said Jackson.

“All our finalists this year have proven worthy examples of best practice in this industry, and as World Mail Award nominees can demonstrate clear leadership that will undoubtedly help guide others in mail in finding successful solutions of their own.”
