Brazil Post cleared to hire 9,900 more employees

Brazil Post has been given the green light by ministers to recruit a further 9,904 new employees. The approval by the Planning Ministry on Wednesday came just over a year after the fast-growing postal service launched a process that has now seen 10,381 new staff taken on.

Brazil Post – Correios – currently has 115,000 employees, including 57,000 mail carriers.

It said the new positions will mostly be for mail carriers and in sorting and transshipment operations.

“The authorisation (from the ministry) provides for the filling of vacancies to take place in a phased manner, with 3,302 vacancies for immediate employment (as of 1 July), 3,301 from 1st January 2013 and 3,301 from 1st April 2013,” said Brazil Post in a statement.

Under the approval from the ministry, Brazil Post can hire candidates from the reserve list of last year’s recruitment campaign where needed, but in areas where there are no reserves available, it can hold a fresh recruitment campaign in the second half of this year.

Earlier this year, the Brazil Post president Wagner Pinheiro de Olivera said he believed his growth strategy would take his company’s contribution to Brazil’s GDP from 0.4% up to a full 1%.

Parcels services are expected to grow particularly rapidly, to account for half of revenues, compared to around 35% at the moment.

Apprenticeship

Meanwhile, Brazil Post is also set to offer apprenticeships to 2,820 young people, between the ages of 14 and 20.

The company is partnering with the national apprenticeship service Senai to provide the apprenticeships across the country.

As well as getting a 12-month, 20-hour-per-week apprenticeship, those taking part will receive training and will also be placed on the reserve list for future full-time jobs.

Brazil Post’s Young Apprentice programme already supports about 3,000 students in Brazil.
