Walter Oblin takes over role as Austrian Post CFO

Austrian Post has a new chief financial officer as of this month, after Rudolf Jettmar retired after 13 years as CFO. Walter Oblin steps up from his previous position as head of strategy and group development, a role he has held at Austrian Post since the tail end of 2009.

Prior to joining Austrian Post, Oblin spent a year as commercial director of a German renewable energy technology company, but much of his career has been spent as a McKinsey management consultant, joining the company’s Vienna unit in 1994, before becoming a managing partner in the year 2000.

Oblin graduated in mechanical engineering and business administration from the Graz University of Technology, as well as undertaking a Masters degree in industrial administration at Purdue University in the United States.

As well as leading Austrian Post’s finance and accounting activities, along with areas like IT and purchasing, as CFO, Jettmar was an interim chairman of the board from April to September 2009, and also a former deputy chairman of the board.

Jettmar’s career prior to joining Austrian Post in 1999 included 17 years as a board member at the Österreichische Verkehrskreditbank.

Commenting on the appointment of Oblin and retirement of Jettmar, Austrian Post’s chief executive Georg Pölzl said: “Over the past 13 years Rudolf Jettmar has made a significant contribution towards making Austrian Post one of the most successfully publicly listed companies in Austria.

“His successor Walter Oblin is an internationally experienced manager who has already over the last three years decisively shaped the new orientation of the company as head of strategy and group development,” added Pölzl.
