Vanderlande supplies sorting machine for Romanian couriers

Romanian express courier firm Urgent Curier is upgrading its processing systems within its facility in Bucharest with a new sorting machine from Vanderlande. The Dutch manufacturer will be providing the first linear shoe sorter for the Romanian market in the form of a POSISORTER system.

Vanderlande said the system will be able to sort 7,000 parcels an hour, while future modifications are set to boost this to 8,000 per hour.

The company said its horizontal, high-speed sorting conveyor suitable for sorting a wide range of products with full-width extruded aluminium carriers on which are mounted moulded divert shoes that slide across to push parcels into output spurs.

The closed design of the deck means no objects can fall through or become stuck.

Vanderlande said its “plug and play” carrier design means a show can be changed in less than a minute using only an Allen key.

The firm said its VISION software tools were also an essential part of the new process at Urgent Currier, keeping tabs on the performance and efficiency of their process.

Roald de Groot, key account manager for postal and parcel at Vanderlande, said: “Users increasingly need on-demand access to information that is often hidden within different data sources. Creating reports that provide the necessary insight at strategic, operational and technical levels is therefore often time-consuming.”

Urgent Curier was established in 2004, specialising in deliveries for small and medium-sized companies. The firm collects from more than 5,500 locations.

Growth

Vanderlande, which also makes automated material handling systems for other sectors like the warehousing and baggage handling sectors, issued its latest financial results last week for the year up to the end of March, showing good growth in its sales within the postal and parcel industry.

Overall the company has seen a 40% growth in orders compared to the previous year, with all sectors contributing to the growth.

Michiel Peters, the Vanderlande CEO, said: “The parcel and postal market is growing on all continents, with double-digit growth of e-commerce as the main driver. Customers are again investing in the innovation of their network solutions, and have confirmed our position as one of the leading suppliers in this market.”
