FedEx Trade Networks opens forwarding office in Scotland

FedEx is continuing the global expansion of its freight forwarding business, FedEx Trade Networks, with a new location in Glasgow, Scotland. The new operations represent the third FedEx Trade Networks office to open in the UK, after London and Manchester offices, and should allow customers in Scotland greater access to major global markets, the company said today.

It also means better access in the UK for the company’s freight forwarding network.

The new office is located close to Glasgow (GLA) and Prestwick (PIK) airports, as well as the ocean terminals at Greenock and Grangemouth, offering “ideal” links for international trade.

FedEx Trade Networks offers a range of customised air and ocean freight forwarding services, with various multi-modal and value-added services to provide end-to-end solutions, including aspects like customs brokerage, purchase order management, transportation, warehousing and distribution.

Fred Schardt, the chief executive and president of FedEx Trade Networks, said with the new location, global shippers and businesses in Scotland would now gain the local support they need with the new operation.

“Glasgow is an important transport hub for the textile, automotive and technology sectors and its port structure and network of road and railways offer multiple important export options,” he said. “This new office will provide customers enhanced access to the whole of Europe and increase connectivity worldwide.”

Part of the FedEx Express segment of FedEx Corp, FedEx Trade Networks has opened 51 new freight forwarding offices around the world as part of a global expansion strategy that has been ongoing since 2008.

The company now operates out of more than 130 offices in 25 countries around the world.
