APC Overnight co-founder launches Thames Valley courier firm

Former APC Overnight director and co-founder Jon Barber launched a new express parcels and pallet business today, called Delivered. Barber, who sold part of his old business Scarlet Couriers to express delivery firm CitySprint in June, said the new firm will offer nationwide and international services for businesses in the Thames Valley and Chilterns area west of London.

This will include APC Overnight parcel services and TPN pallet services.

The company has distribution centres in Reading, Slough and in High Wycombe, where its head office is located.

Delivered will include the pallet and warehousing services that the original Scarlet Couriers business retained when CitySprint acquired the company’s same day delivery, UK overnight delivery and international operations.

The company aims to build its brand in the Thames Valley area and expand beyond the region by acquiring complementary APC and TPN depots.

Barber said he was building on 30 years of experience to provide “the best possible” parcel and pallet delivery solutions.

“For those customers we already service, the transition to the Delivered brand will be seamless and for new clients, they’ll soon experience and benefit from our customer-centric approach,” he said.

Barber started out in the industry in 1982 as a despatch rider with Scarlet Couriers, and within a few months decided to buy the company, which had five employees at the time. This year, as it was acquired by CitySprint, Scarlet Couriers had more than 100 staff, many of whom are transferring to Delivered.

Barber said was extending a priority on “the service and the people” from Scarlet Couriers to the new business.

“You need to get those parts of the business right to ensure that you provide a high quality, professional service that cares about the customer,” he said.
