FedEx launches direct link form Germany to US network
GROWING demand for reduced transit times and later pick-ups in Europe has inspired FedEx to reconfigure its next-day Frankfurt to Memphis, USA, services.
FedEx Express, which claims to be the world’s largest express company, has started five weekly direct flights from its Frankfurt hub to its Memphis superhub.
The company has consolidated its current two daily A3 10 flights from Germany to other European gateways into the direct Frankfurt-Memphis service.
“Customers have asked for later cut-off times for critical shipments that must go out that day.
“The new direct flight to Memphis enables us to provide service enhancements for our customers and improve our utilisation of the existing FedEx Express network and sorting facilities in Germany,” says Antje SchuettFahrenkrog, vice-president of FedEx Express for central and eastern Europe.
The flight enables FedEx to connect additional German cities to its FedEx Express-freighter network covering more than 70 per cent of Germany’s GDP with a next-
day by 10:30 am — service to many destinations throughout North America, Latin America and Canada.
German companies in existing FedEx Expressfreighterserved areas will benefit from pick-up time improvements of up to three hours.
“We already have the UK and France connected to the US with direct flights each evening. Adding Germany — the economic powerhouse of the region — to our global system in this way underlines not only the presence we have across the region, but also our commitment to developing import and export services to and from Europe,” says Robert Elliott, president in the region.
