Deutsche Post aims to strongly increase US market share

Deutsche Post World Net AG said it wants to strongly hike its US market share from the present level of 5 pct in the next three years and is interested in acquiring medium sized companies there.

Speaking in an interview with Boersen-Zeitung, chief financial officer Edgar Ernst said Deutsche Post is not interested in building up a full network in the US, similar to that of UPS.

But chairman Klaus Zumwinckel said he wants to strongly increase the figure of 5 pct market share, possibly through acquisitions.

According to Ernst the main priority for Deutsche Post is to bring the express delivery service DHL back to profitability.

The paper said Deutsche Post will hold over 73.5 pct in DHL by the end of the year and the subsidiary will be consolidated into results for the first time this year.
