Most European services better than Poste Italiane

“Italys postal network is still unusually poor. said Lanfranco Senn, director of the Centro di Economia Regionale, Trasporti e Turistno (centre for regional economics, transport and tourism) of the Bocconi university. NIilan (Italy), when he presented a white paper published by Aicai. the association of Italian express and airmail couriers. “its quality of service is not vet comparable with that of its European counterparts: the number and location of the branches and staff has not been rationalised: On the contrary customer requirements are widely disregarded. The gradual liberalisation of the European market is an important element in modernisation, and the emergence of new private service providers will make the industry more dynamic and more efficient,”
Senn added that market liheralisation was more protracted in countries where the postal service had a monopoly. He also used the example of Ger
many to show that a large number of the jobs lost in the course of privatisation were recreated by private competitors.
With its white paper. the Associzaione Italiana (orrieri A erei e Internazionali intends to encourage the Italian parliament and pubtic opinion to take a closer look at the country’s integrators. The document issues a particular warning against bans on night flights, which are planned in Italy and in other countries too, and criticises the net f iciency of the Italian customs offices. whose limited working hours put the country at a definite disadvantage to the rest of Europe.
