DHL Worldwide Express opens delivery service in Barbados

DHL Worldwide Express has started package and freight delivery service in Barbados and has decided to make the former British colony its Eastern Caribbean base, the company said.

The first packages arrived in Bridgetown last week aboard a Boeing 727, the company said in a statement Friday.

DHL’s office in Bridgetown will act as a hub for service to nearby islands including St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Dominica and the South American nation of Guyana.

Increased traffic to the region in the last two years made the Barbados branch necessary, the company said. It gave no details about the new office or about delivery volumes.

DHL, headquartered in San Francisco, offers service in 228 countries worldwide.
