Menzies World Cargo has acquired The Wyng Group
The two companies have worked together since November 2000 when Wyng outsourced handling for its customer, Emirates SkyCargo to Menzies. Terms of the purchase have not been disclosed. (5/7/2002)
In addition to taking over Emirates cargo handling contract, the acquisition also includes the road transport fleet operated by Wyng Roadflight and the company’s regional cargo reception centers at Heathrow, Birmingham, East Midlands, Sheffield, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle.
Wyng Group was established in 1989 by the late John Wyn Griffith.
Des Vertannes, Managing Director of Menzies World Cargo, said: “We are pleased to have successfully concluded this agreement to acquire Wyng Group.
Having worked on behalf of Emirates SkyCargo as a third party supplier, we will now be able to create a much closer working relationship and take direct responsibility for the service level agreement that has been contracted between the partners.
Ultimately, Emirates will benefit from the information and service advantages created by Hermes, our new business management system, that we will be introducing across our UK business, starting in May.”
