Postal authorities introduce innovative services
The Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Y. Upendra, said the postal authorities have introduced certain innovative services to provide full customer satisfaction.
The speed post, introduced several years ago, has now been oriented to ensure that customers, using web site, knew the status of articles and kept track of the despatch position.The highlights of the express parcel post, benefiting the business community and industrialists regularly sending articles by surface transport, would have standardised delivery norms. Insurance facility had also been introduced.
The business post system aimed at enabling organisations like the BSNL, the LIC, educational authorities etc to have the pre-mailing activities done by postal staff on their premises.
The customers of this category need not affix postal stamps and can have the facility of franking them. Six franking machines had been installed in the HPO here. Credit facility is also available for these customers.
The media post system enables display of advertisements on the mail vans, post boxes etc. There were 2000 post boxes spread over Pondicherry Villupuram, Tindivanam and Gingee wings coming under the Pondicherry postal division.
Mr. Upendra said space was rented out for advertisement purposes.
The retail post system enables sale of applications for UPSC, Centralised Admission Committee for admission of students to professional courses, at the post offices. The Western Union money transfer system has also been introduced to enable people to receive money in Indian currency from any part of the world.
