ex-Carrefour transformation expert hired to improve Spain’s post offices
Spain’s Correos has hired a business transformation expert to promote the full potential of its retail network. Todd Hooper, 40, is a Canadian expat who led a major modernisation project at supermarket chain Carrefour.
He has been appointed as deputy director of operations at Correos, tasked with strengthening the role of the Spanish national postal operator’s network of 2,400 post offices.
Correos said he brings “extensive” knowledge of the retail arena, particularly in the field of improving the customer experience.
Hooper started out his career in the banking industry in Canada, and spent nearly two years in Kuwait teaching at the American International School.
Todd Hooper developed a new store layout concept for supermarket chain Carrefour
He has spent more than 10 years in Spain, joining Carrefour initially on a fast-track managerial programme before managing stores in several cities. From 2009 to 2011, he led Carrefour’s Planet transformation strategy, in which the chain invested more than €200m to modernise its stores and shore up its market share.
Hooper developed and implemented a new store layout to make shopping easier for customers, which he said was 30% faster for customers to navigate.
From 2011 to 2013 he took charge of the supermarket’s flagship store, the €110m-turnover Alcobendas store in Madrid, increasing sales and store efficiency, and launching training guidelines for the rest of the company’s 300 stores.
Last year, Hooper took charge of private label brands in Carrefour Spain.
“Extensive knowledge”
“Hooper arrives at Correos to boost the role of the 2,400 post offices that comprise the densest territorial coverage of any network in Spain, and enhance the range of products and services of the Company,” Correos said of its new hiring yesterday.
“It will also bring his extensive knowledge of the retail field in improving the customer experience in post offices, leading this part of the company’s Action Plan 100-300-1.500, which aims to transform the postal company into the best provider of physical, electronic and parcel services in the Spanish communications market.”
Hooper has an MBA from the IESE Business School and a degree in commerce from Ryerson University in Toronto. He is married with two children.
