DPWN Raises Express Rates July 1

With effect from 1 July 2002, Deutsche Post will adjust the prices for various products and special services offered by the Express division. Prices for sending small packets within Germany will remain stable. Reasons for the price adjustments include increased staff costs as well as the general rise in fuel prices and the insurance industry that has also led to higher prices by competing parcel service providers. For instance, the price of a domestic parcel weighing up to four kilos will be increased for the first time in more than two years from €5.62 to €5.90. The price of a single Freeway parcel stamp for domestic parcels up to four kilos will also increase from €5.62 to €5.90. A pack of ten (price increased from €53.69 to €55.00) still represents a €4 saving over ten single stamps. Conditions will also change with regard to tube-shaped mail items: As these must be processed separately, an additional charge of €1.50 will be levied per item. However, the maximum length of tube-shaped items will be increased from 90cm to 120cm, and its maximum weight from three kilos to five kilos. The transportation of unpackaged bicycles will not be offered any longer as there is insufficient demand for the service. A full price list with all the Express division’s new prices will be available from all Deutsche Post retail outlets and on the internet at www.deutschepost.de from week 25.
