Hermes Germany encouraging e-commerce clients to offer range of shipping options

Hermes Germany has restructured its services to make it easier for e-commerce merchants to offer a variety of shipping options to their customers. The parcel carrier said a new offering, Hermes WunschZustellung (Hermes RequestService) offers a range of service options for delivery on a preferred day, or during a certain time window, to improve the convenience of delivery.

Other options available include delivery to an alternate address or to one of Hermes’ 14,000 parcel shops across the country.

Thomas Horst, the managing director of sales for Hermes Germany, said the new customised service offering responded to the demand for more controllable shipping process to fit with the modern lifestyle.

“Hermes already offers a variety of options through which the service can be adapted to the individual habits of customers,” he said. “By restructuring, we want to more effectively highlight these services and encourage more merchants to offer their customers additional shipping options. Because only merchants who focus on the customer, even during the shipping process, will have long-term success.”

Through the new request service, consumers can be offered a three-hour delivery window on a chosen day, in the morning, afternoon or during the evening.

Alternatively, a preferred day can be chosen, when the consumer will be notified of the day of delivery.

Items delivered to a parcel shop are stored there for up to 10 days for pick-up, with customers notified by email or text message that an item is ready for collection.

Dr Sebastian Hauptmann, senior vice president of supply chain and procurement at media firm Sky Deutschland, said: “We offer a variety of shipping options from the standard service or express delivery, to the exact time of delivery on a preferred date, which we provide with Hermes. We believe that customer satisfaction does not depend solely on the speed, but on the options available — the right solution has to be provided for each customer group and each shipment.”
