German Parcel, GLS change strategy
Parcel service German Parcel and its European holding General Logistics Systems (GLS) will bet on alliances and joint ventures in order to complete their network. Plans for acquisitions were given up. According to insiders, the strategy change is due to the losses of British parent Consignia. However, German Parcel head Rico Back turned down such speculation. German Parcel, the number four parcel service in Germany, plans to found alliances and joint ventures in Spain, Norway, Switzerland and Greece. In Spain, talks are to start within the coming two weeks. In terms of market shares, GLS, which is based in Oude Meer near Amsterdam, is the number five in Europe. It has a turnover volume of around EUR 1bn (US$ 0.92bn).
