Geodis chosen by IBM to operate its worldwide logistics
The Geodis group has signed a major logistics agreement with IBM 5-year agreement includes the pre and postproduction logistics for the Dublin plant which manufactures IBM servers. (6/24/2002)
The main services covered are:
Management of component warehouse activities
Management of suppliers VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory)
Production line replenishment
Shipment of finished products
As part of this agreement, Geodis is building a 30,000 m² warehouse which, by the end of 2002, will handle IBM’s logistics as well as business from other customers through new contracts currently being negotiated. Geodis Logistics Ireland, an Irish Group subsidiary providing European groupage and full truckload services, will operate the warehouse.
This new agreement strengthens the alliance between Geodis and IBM, which was initiated in 1998 to cover IBM’s logistics needs in France, Germany and Italy, then extended to cover Spain and Portugal in 1999. This agreement is part of a strategy by Geodis to partner its key accounts developing their international logistics from Ireland.
