La Poste to Launch Two Insurance Products
The French post office (La Poste) is planning to launch another two insurance products. The first of these novelties provides insurance against accidents in the home – mishaps which, according to La Poste, account for 75 per cent of the accidents which occur each year in France. The second product, which is due to be launched next year, is a policy designed to insure its holders against the cost of dependence in old age. It is aimed primarily at the wealthiest of the 630,000 inhabitants of France who are over the age of 60 and largely dependent on others. Assurpost, the joint insurance subsidiary which La Poste has set up with the French insurance group CNP Assurances, achieved a turnover of 61m euros and a 4.66m-euro net profit in 2001. At the same time, the number of its new contracts rose year-on-year from 60,000 to 145,000.
