DTDC reportedly looking at involvement in South African market

India-based DTDC may be looking to become involved in the South African parcels delivery market. According to a report in the Indian newspaper The Economic Times, Abhishek Chakraborty, executive director of DTDC, has said that DPDGroup has approached the India-based company to see if it can replicate its business model in South Africa – possibly through a tie-up with DPD’s South African subsidiary.

The report said that the deal could involve setting up a hub-and-spoke model with sorting and delivery centres in major cities, and franchise agreements for last-mile deliveries to remote towns.

DTDC, which already has ties to DPD, believes its business model is particularly suited to emerging markets. It enlists thousands of small entrepreneurs to collect and deliver parcels in their localities.
