“The sooner Eircode is introduced, the better,” says Nightline CEO
Although the Irish Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications has heard more warnings this week about the soon-to-be-introduced Eircode, John Tuohy, CEO of Ireland’s biggest independent delivery firm, the Nightline Group, has maintained that the objections did not cause him any misgivings. In a statement issued by Nightline to Post&Parcel, Tuohy said: “To get to the point at which we’re ready to implement Eircode has involved substantial, detailed and very lengthy discussions and examinations of its merits.
“The latest parliamentary hearings are not the first to consider opposition to the scheme and the criticisms advanced have changed only very slightly and, even then, not enough, in my opinion, to warrant a complete rethink.
“We have said for a long time that the benefits of having a postcode outweigh the possibility of remaining without one.
“I don’t believe that Eircode as it stands is the finished article and that there is still plenty of scope to improve and update it while it is in operation to take account of changing needs and circumstances.
“It promises to make our business and others more efficient.
“The sooner it is introduced, the better”.
Sources have told Post&Parcel that the Communications Regulation (Postal Services) Amendment Bill 2015 – the law which ushers in Eircode – is due to be signed into effect next Wednesday by the country’s president. The launch will then take place on Monday the 13th of this month.
