Senator calls for GAO review of USPS delivery standards

US Senator Claire McCaskill has requested that the Government Accountability Office review the US Postal Service’s calculation of delivery times and standards. In a statement issued on Wednesday (1 July), Senator McCaskill said that Senators Jon Tester of Montana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, and Tom Carper of Delaware have also signed on to the request.

The review is expected to be completed by August.

Senator McCaskill is a senior member of the Senate’s Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and has been a long-standing advocate of maintaining the USPS delivery commitments in rural areas.

The Senator recently co-hosted a bipartisan roundtable on rural postal issues and also called for a one-year moratorium on the closure of postal facilities “until the impact of those closings is fully understood”.
