India Post and State Bank of India launching ATM services

India Post and the State Bank of India are working together to launch ATM services in general post offices in the twin states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. According to local sources, B V Sudhakar, Post Master General of India Post, Andhra Pradesh Circle (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State), said that customers will be able to use the ATM machines for 26 postal services including Speed Post, Registered Post, Parcel articles, and Postal LIC, as well as other services.

Sudhakar was quoted as saying that the initiative was being launched initially at around 100 post offices in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on a pilot basis, but would be extended to a further 2, 500 post offices across both states before the end of this month.

The ATMs will also enable customers – many of whom are involved in the rural economy – to make cash withdrawals using their debit and credit cards.
