Update on PostNL parcel delivery box pilot

Update on PostNL parcel delivery box pilot

PostNL has confirmed to Post&Parcel today (13 August) that it is currently running a pilot project to test out the feasibility of using smart parcel delivery boxes. As previously reported, the boxes are designed to be secured to the exterior of users’ houses, so they can receive mail deliveries when they are not at home.

Users are sent an email alert when parcels are deposited in their boxes, and when they get home they can unlock the boxes using their passwords.

However, a spokesperson at PostNL said today that the pilot is an internal, very low-key affair. The company had not intended to make any public announcement about the trial, but information leaked out.

The pilot test will continue for about another three weeks, after which PostNL will decide it wants to take the project further.
