DPD GeoPost buys German franchisee DPD Altentreptow

DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH has acquired the German franchisee DPD Altentreptow. The acquisition came into effect on 1 September.

DPD Altentreptow  has a parcel distribution centre in Altentreptow and has been providing parcel services in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania area for many years.

The Altentreptow facility will continue to operate without interruption, with all 43 staff members transferred to the new owner. DPD Altentreptow was sold by the freight forwarders Gertner, which took over parcel operations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as a DPD franchisee in 1993.

“The acquisition of DPD Altentreptow will make our countrywide organisational structure even more efficient. Together we aim to enhance our operations on behalf of customers and consignees as a premium service provider”, commented DPD CEO Boris Winkelmann.

Following the Altentreptow deal, 73 of DPD’s 76 locations in Germany are now owned by DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH, which also acquired co-shareholder DPD Systemlogistik in March of this year. With this acquisition GeoPost (a wholly-owned subsidiary of La Poste and the major shareholder in DPD) has increased its shareholding in the company to 93.79%. With two locations in Berlin and one in Raunheim, Hessen, DPD Zeitfracht GmbH remains the only other shareholder in DPD.
