Australia’s postal workers rally against price changes

Local sources have reported that postal workers rallied outside Australia Post’s national headquarters in Melbourne today to voice their concerns over proposed price changes. As previously reported, Australia Post is proposing to raise the price for some of its services in order to counter the shortfall in its revenues caused by the decline in mail volumes.

However, the Communications Workers Union (CWU) has argued that the changes will lead to job losses, because they will “double the cost of some services and increase interstate postage times from four days to 11 days”.

“The proposals to massively slash services and at the same time double prices … will have a detrimental effect on workers in the industry,” Martin O’Nea, the CWU’s Assistant National Secretary, was quoted as saying at the rally.
