Pos Malaysia reports growth in courier, express and parcel business

Pos Malaysia has reported that it has seen continuing growth in its courier, express and parcel (CEP) business. CEO Azlan Shahrim was quoted by local media saying at the group’s AGM yesterday (8 September): “We have seen the courier business being the main driver over the last year, growing by about 22% year-on-year.

“For the first quarter [of FY16], we grew about the same amount. We are expecting the same trend to continue, so the courier business is a main growth area for Pos Malaysia going forward,” he added.

For the first quarter of financial year 2016  (Q1FY16) , which ended on 30 June 2015, Pos Malaysia recorded a net profit of RM22.74m, down by 16% from the same period in the previous year. Revenue, however, increased by 6% to RM390.37m, due mainly to higher volume from its transshipment business from the mail segment.

For FY15, Pos Malaysia saw net profit fall by 20% to RM127.05m, although revenue increased 4.7% to RM1.49bn.

Pos Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil added: “We aim to grow our CEP business segment further by maximising the efficiency of our CEP infrastructure, capturing additional market share and generating new revenue streams via the introduction of new products and services,” the Chairman added.
