Merseyside manufacturer’s parcel handling system makes waves in Europe
UK manufacturer Sovex is enjoying record European sales after manufacturing a cutting edge, space-saving parcel handling system for Deutsche Post. Sovex European Managing Director Gijs Kurvers said Deutsche Post initially ordered 125 of the conveyors following several prototypes. There are now more than 200 in use at the postal giant’s 33 German depots, with a further order placed for 38 telescopic conveyors.
“Deutsche Post requested a parcel handling system which would help maintain its position as world number one,” he said. “Working with the customer we created a prototype of the Space Saver Boom – a single vehicle loading system that saves space to enable forklift trucks, roller cages and pallet trucks to get past. Our engineering team spent six months developing it. It was a real team effort. Deutsche Post appreciated the versatility and compactness of the design and using the Space Saver Boom has enabled them to increase throughput at their depots. A further order for another 38 has recently been placed along with an order for 25 TL3 telescopic conveyors with three extendable sections for another project.”
Sovex’s innovative Space Saver Booms can unload any type of trailer and container and retract underneath its specially designed roller conveyor to help save warehouse space.
Merseyside-based Sovex, which, as one of the UK’s fastest-growing companies, ranked number 82 in the prestigious Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100, specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of conveyor systems.
Aside from its work with Deutsche Post DHL, the firm works with other major parcel carriers such as DPD and Hermes. It has also recently renewed its UK servicing agreement with DHL Express UK and Ireland.
