Shyp launches “address-free shipping”
On-demand shipping company Shyp has launched an “address-free shipping” service. In a notice posted on its official blog yesterday (22 October), Shyp explained how the service works: “Starting today, you’ll never need someone’s address to send them something again. Shyp customers can now create usernames, to which their address and delivery preferences will be synced. When one of your contacts wants to send you something, they’ll type in your username, rather than a numerical street address.
“If you move, change jobs, or spend time traveling, just update the address on your Shyp account. Your username remains the same, which means you stay connected to friends and family wherever you go.”
Shyp’s CEO Kevin Gibbon commented: “This is the first time that a shipment product or service has an actual relationship with the recipient.
“Traditionally, it’s just you at the post office, the address is outside of the box, and that’s it. What we’re doing is building the relationship and the flexibility for the actual recipient himself.”
The intended recipients can track their parcels’ progress via the Shyp smartphone app . And – in the window of time when the packages are still being prepared – they can change the designated delivery location.
Shyp currently collects parcels from senders based in five US markets – San Francisco, New York (Brooklyn and Manhattan), Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago – but the parcels can then be sent on to recipients anywhere.
