China Post updates express tracking system

China Post has updated its tracking and checking system for the Express Mail Service (EMS) and integrated the system into its nationwide computer network.

The old system was recently closed after nine years, according to an SPB official. Both software and hardware components of the system had been updated. Cities with the new system’s computer centers had risen from 201 to 284 and were throughout China, said the official. At present clients can check EMS mail either through the electronic postal outlets or by dialing 185, the phone number for the service.

The checking service is to be done via the Internet. China Post has run EMS for 22 years. In 1990, it started to develop the EMS checking system with an investment of some 30 million yuan (about 3.63 million US dollars).”
