Royal Mail agrees five-year contract for Scilly Isles post

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group has secured a five-year contract with Royal Mail to continue carrying all post to and from the Isles of Scilly. The deal, which follows the current three year contract and includes services to St Mary’s and all the off-islands, means that the post will continue to be flown six days a week to and from the islands by the Group’s in-house airline Skybus, via Land’s End and St Mary’s airports.

Alternative transport by sea is available on the Group’s Scillonian III passenger ship or freight vessel, the Gry Maritha.

Andy Daintree, Head of Island Businesses and Freight Services at the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, commented: “The post is one of the lifeline services that we provide to islanders and we look forward to continuing our long relationship with Royal Mail.

“Although the vast majority of post is carried by air these days we can always fall back on our sea operation if necessary. We will continue to deliver the same level of service as now, which will include two collections a day on the off islands.”
