Royal Mail’s Green says she would “love” to see technology like drones and driverless trucks
Royal Mail’s chief executive Moya Greene has said that she would “love to see” new technologies like drones and driverless trucks being introduced in the UK post and parcel delivery industry. As previously reported, internet giants Amazon and Google have both been running their own programmes for developing and testing drone deliveries. Indeed, several national posts, including Swiss Post and Finland’s Posti, have already run pilot delivery programmes, and Australia Post is planning to start a test programme in partnership with an e-tailer next year.
Now, according to a report published by The Telegraph this afternoon, Greene has intimated that Royal Mail too might be interested in looking at the technology in the future. But this does seem to be a possible item on the “wish list”, rather than a plan in the “to-do” in-tray.
Greene also pointed out drone delivery was likely to be something of a specialised offering.
“I don’t think it is going to be to every single address,” Greene was quoted as saying. “I think it is going to work in more remote places where you don’t have to deliver too much. I’d love to see things like that.”
Greene, who was speaking at an event organized by the CBI, also said that “we can probably see a day when we’re going to have driverless trucks”.
