Nine million Brits to visit eBay on Black Friday
eBay has predicted that nine million Britons will visit its UK site on Black Friday 2015 (27 November), and 25 items will be purchased every second throughout the market place on the big day. The online market place announced today (11 November) that it will be offering a range of deals running for eight consecutive days, from Monday 23 November to Monday 30 November, with new offers revealed at 8.00AM GMT each day.
eBay added that a recent study conducted by TNS Ncompass had revealed some interesting insights into the way UK residents (or “Brits”, to use eBay’s terminology) are planning to shop this holiday season.
These included:
- The average shopper will part with a total of £208.94 in gifts, with women acknowledging that they spend more than their male counterparts. 78% of women also admitted to leading the Christmas shopping for their household this year. In fact, nearly half of women surveyed (45%) anonymously confessed to keeping a gift they had originally purchased for someone else.
- There’s also a regional split on Christmas spend. London residents will spend the least on presents (£181.22) in comparison to major regional cities. Liverpudlians are set to spend more on festive goodies than any other city in the UK – an average of £239.30 in 2015.
TNS also conducted a study on US shoppers’ attitudes to Christmas shopping. The US study, also released today, showed that US consumers are starting their holiday shopping earlier than in previous years. The study notes that the number of Americans who waited until December to start their Christmas shopping declined by 7% from 2014 to 2015. Instead, respondents said they are increasingly starting their shopping in November, especially women, with 43% reporting the start of their shopping season this month.
