Precision Printing UK installs CMC Cartonwrap 500 system

UK-based digital printer Precision Printing recently installed a CMC CartonWrap 500 box-on-demand system to automate its packaging of Photo Books personalized and produced in low quantities from an HP Indigo 10000. CMC CartonWrap is able to produce variable sized cartons dynamically from a flat corrugated supply at the rate of 500 cartons per hour, the system is aimed at the e-commerce fulfillment market.

The CMC Cartonwrap 500 wraps single and multiple book photo book orders using corrugated fed from a fanfold stack.  Photo Book orders are scanned by an operator and placed on the inlet conveyor where a scanner detects the product in three dimensions and triggers the feeding of corrugated to create the exact dimension box.

The photo books are automatically placed in the carton, the carton is sealed and the shipping label is automatically printed and applied to the parcel.  The PC ADD Control System was adapted to Precision Printing’s existing IT infrastructure to track the data /product according to the database to guarantee 100% integrity of the entire process.

A key feature of the CartonWrap system is the ability to create a box for photo books that can be mailed at normal postal rates, creating significant cost savings versus mailing at parcel rates.  In addition, since boxes are created to the exact size of the photo books, Precision Printing is able to better manage their pre-made box inventory, reduce the packaging labor cost and eliminate  void filler materials in their shipments.
