FKI Logistex wins AUD 35.1m contract to supply Australia Post

FKI plc today announces that FKI Logistex, through its Crisplant a/s operation, has won a AUD 35.1m contract to supply Australia Post with three automated high-speed sorting systems for parcel mail. Australia Post has decided to automate its parcel handling facilities by establishing three parcel centres in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to maintain its position in the ever more competitive parcel handling market. FKI Logistex Crisplant has been selected as the main contractor for the supply of the sophisticated automated sorting systems for all three of the centres.

The three centres will be furnished with identical equipment in different configurations tailored to the centre’s requirements. Each centre will be equipped with an S-3000E tilt-tray sorter, conveyors, an automatic postal container handling system, and a complete control system. The Sydney Centre will have a capacity of 15,000 parcels per hour, whereas Melbourne and Brisbane will each have a capacity of 10,000 parcels per hour. The systems will be integrated with the existing “smalls” sorting system for smaller packages. Together, the three systems will provide nationwide coverage of Australia’s 20 million addresses and the use of modern computer and database technology will enable access time to individual addresses of only a few milliseconds.

Crisplant’s S-3000E sorter provides high-speed sorting through its electrically controlled tilting device, which controls the trays’ slope in the curves and thus increases speed considerably. The systems will operate at a sorting speed of 2.6 m/s and so enable capacity to be increased in a smaller building footprint. Australia Post is responsible for contract sorting for many customers, including several wine distributors. The S-3000E tilt tray sorter and specially designed chutes meet the need for gentle handling of such fragile products.

Steve Jones, Managing Director of FKI Logistex, commented:

“This follows a number of other good order wins for FKI Logistex and confirms our international market leading position, as well as demonstrating our ability to tailor unique solutions to our clients’ requirements.”
