GrabTaxi launches Jakarta parcel delivery service

GrabTaxi launches Jakarta parcel delivery service

On-demand transportation app company GrabTaxi has launched its parcel delivery service, GrabExpress, in Indonesia today (23 November). GrabTaxi started out with a taxi-hailing app and then added motorcycle rides, through GrabBike, which launched in Indonesia in May.

GrabExpress is being developed as part of GrabBike – so the packages will be limited to around 5kg in weight.

In a notice posted on its website blog today, GrabTaxi said that the service is starting up in selected areas of Jakarta, including Sudirman, Senayan, SCBD, Thamrin, Kuningan and Kemang, but will expand soon.

GrabTaxi’s big rival in Indonesia’s on-demand transportation field, Go-Jek, launched its bike courier service in Jakarta last year.

Launched in 2012, GrabTaxi is now in 20 cities across six countries: Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam. In April, the company was reported to be trialling a parcel delivery service in Bangkok.
