TNT to open 40 retail outlets

TNT India , the 100 per cent subsidiary of the global distribution major TPG N V, has drawn up plans to shift focus from corporate cargo handling to retail customers. The company is all set open up 40 retail outlets across the country by December.

“The retail market in India has not really been tapped though there is tremendous potential here and as far as TNT is concerned we feel that this is a very profitable category for the company,” Jinendra Sancheti managing director ( Indian sub continent), TNT, said. The company is also going to increase investments by 50 per cent for its Express business in the country.

TNT is planning to launch more customised services to zero in on the retail market. The special services that the company plans to launch will be targeted at the biotech and pharmaceuticals market. TNT has already introduced customised service brands `Scholar Pack’ and Rakhi Pack’ in the market.

Sancheti said India was among the top 4 markets for the company in Asia and Middle East.

“India is going to be our second most critical market in the Asia region in the next two years. Our target is to increase our market share in the country to 25 per cent in the next five years,” he added.
