UK postal workers walk out over Cashco sell-off
Angry postal workers at a Royal Mail depot near Bristol walked out yesterday in an unofficial strike in protest at plans to sell off a key part of the Post Office.
The workers are employed by Cashco, which is the arm of the Royal Mail that delivers cash and high-value items.
The action began at 7pm on Monday after detailed plans were revealed regarding the sale of Cashco to privateers Securicor.
Initially, 30 members of the late shift at the Filton depot began the action and they were joined by 90 others at 6am yesterday.
A Post Office spokesman said:
“There was no warning about the strike action, which started in full force at 6am on Tuesday with the early shift workers.”
The Communication Workers Union is strongly opposed to the privatisation plans, but does not support unofficial industrial action.
CWU officials are due to meet Post Office management in London tomorrow when the Cashco sell-off will be discussed.
