DHL wins 15Yr, 780M HKD cargo terminal franchise from HK Airpore Authority

The Airport Authority said it has awarded a franchise to DHL International (Hong Kong) Ltd for the development, construction and operations of the Express Cargo Terminal at Hong Kong International Airport.

The franchise will last for 15 years, with a total investment of 780 mln hkd, it said.

The Express Cargo Terminal will occupy an area of 18,200 sq meters, and is scheduled to commence its operations in 2004, it said.

Initially, peak throughput of the terminal will be about 20,000 shipments per hour in 2004, expanding to 45,000 by 2018. The terminal will be able to handle about 440 tonnes of cargo per day in 2004, with ultimate capability to handle about 900 tonnes per day by 2014, it said.
