PostNL reports record Christmas parcel volumes

PostNL has reported that it processed and delivered more than 1.4m parcels yesterday (22 December). The Dutch postal operator said that this was an increase of 30% compared to last year and 100,000 more than on 1 December, the record day before ‘Sinterklaas’ when more than 1.3m parcels have been delivered. Christmas gifts, but more over wine-parcels had a large share in the volume.

“Our 18 sorting centres have been working full steam in December,” said PostNL Parcels Director Gerrit Mastenbroek.

“We have 3,100 parcel delivery drivers working today. That is 500 more than we would have on an average delivery day. I’m really proud that our employees and parcel deliverers have been able to set this record by working very hard. Eventually this is in the interest of our (sending) customers and (receiving) consumers.”
