Amazon reportedly looking to build up own delivery network in Germany

Amazon is reportedly looking to build up its own parcel delivery network in Germany – to complement the services it currently provides through its distribution partners. Local sources report that the company is using a distribution centre in Olching, near Munich, as a starting point.

Reports in the German press have quoted Amazon manager Bernd Schwenger as saying that the company is looking to set up set up distribution centres close to a number of big German cities to become less dependent on its distribution partners.

However, he was also quoted as saying that Amazon was looking to do this in order to create more flexibility  and still had a strong relationship with its distributors – which suggests that this would complement, rather than replace, its existing arrangements.
