Amazon set to open second brick-and-mortar bookstore

Amazon is set to launch its second brick-and-mortar bookstore this summer in San Diego. As previously reported, Amazon – after two decades of leading and revolutionising the online shopping world – opened its first physical store in its home tome Seattle last year.

Now, San Diegans have spotted a sign over a retail unit in the University Towne Center Mall which reads, “Coming this summer — Amazon books”, and Amazon has confirmed that the town will soon have an official Amazon bookstore.

Earlier this year, there were reports that Amazon planned to launch a chain of 300-400 bookstores across the US. Although Amazon dismissed the claims as “rumor and speculation” most retail experts believed that the company did have plans in the pipeline – but not perhaps on such a large scale.
