Amazon to open new Manchester fulfilment centre this autumn

Amazon has announced that it will be opening another UK fulfilment centre in Manchester this autumn. In a statement issued today (9 March), Amazon said that the new centre will generate 1,000 new permanent jobs over three years and the company will be recruiting for a range of positions, “from operations managers to engineers, HR and IT roles to associates who will handle orders at the fulfilment centre near Manchester Airport”.

As previously reported, Amazon announced last month that it opening a new fulfilment centre in Coalville, Leicestershire. The Coalville centre, also set to open in the autumn, will create 500 new permanent jobs over three years.

The new roles are part of Amazon’s plans to create 2,500 permanent jobs in the UK this year, bringing the company’s total workforce to 14,500 by the end of 2016.

The opening of the two new sites will take the number of Amazon fulfilment centres in the UK to 12.

Amazon’s ten up and running UK fulfilment centres include two in Doncaster and one each in Dunfermline, Dunstable, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea Bay.
