DHL Acquires Canadian Courier

DHL Canada will acquire Mayne Group Canada in a deal expected to be finalized Jan. 31 pending government and regulatory approval, a Canadian courier service, according to DHL Worldwide Express. DHL, a unit of Deutsche Post World Net of Germany, represents another milestone in DHL’s fast-growing ground business, Deutsche Post said. Early next year, DHL plans to offer a new U.S. ground service, which will be involved in both domestic and cross-border activities. The first pilot tests are already underway. Loomis presents an ideal complement for this service, according to Deutsche Post.

DHL also plans to strengthen its ground presence in Europe, where its European parcel network will in the future operate under the uniform brand of DHL. Loomis is the third-largest courier in Canada, and offers a good complement to DHL’s air express service, the German postal and logistics company said. Mayne Group Canada is a subsidiary of Mayne Group Ltd., Australia’s leading service provider for the manufacture and marketing of medical products.
