SprintPack CEO-owner Somers invests in Efoodbox

Peter Somers, CEO-owner of SprintPack, has invested in Efoodconsult, a Belgian start-up company which has developed the ‘Efoodbox’ solution for the home delivery of food and temperature-sensitive goods. Efoodconsult’s Efoodbox is an isothermal box with an intelligent temperature monitoring system. The company has backed up this technical offering with consulting on food safety and best practices for merchants and logistic players.

Somers explained why he has chosen to invest in the company: ‘I am convinced that the Efoodbox provides a great solution globally for the fast growing market of online food and health care.

“The respect of the cold chain is key for merchants to deliver safe and secure their products at home.

“This solution allows last mile operators to deploy food and medicine deliveries leveraging their existing fleet and avoiding large investments in active cooling equipment for their vans.”

As previous reports from Post&Parcel and the Mail & Express Review have highlighted, the online food delivery sector is a fast-growing and highly competitive market.

According to Somers, “The Netherlands and Belgium show at this moment more modest figures” than markets like the UK or the US, “but in all countries online food is quickly growing”. Somers believes that the Efoodbox system can have a key role to play in this market, by “securing a bullet proof cold chain for the last mile”.

Efoodconsult will continue to be led by the founders Marnix Van Bockhaven and Jos Miermans, while Somers will support the company’s growth and development as Chairman of the Non Executive Board.
