Self-driving vehicles lobby group formed

Google, the car manufacturers Ford and Volvo, and the ride-hailing apps Uber and Lyft have announced the formation of the Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Streets. In a statement issued yesterday (26 April), the lobby group said that it will “work with lawmakers, regulators and the public to realize the safety and societal benefits of self-driving vehicles”.

David Strickland, the former top official of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), will be the coalition’s counsel and spokesman.
