A Symbol of success

Parcelforce claims to have dramatically improved its efficiency after adopting a £1.5m (€2.3m) parcel scanning and tracking system.
In the six months since the introduction of the Symbol finger-mounted ring scanners and wrist-worn computers, linked to a local area network, the company saw a 10% increase in the use of scanners. Damage to scanning equipment is down 40% and Parcelforce has also made savings in back-end IT infrastructure.

Symbol was chosen following trials at three depots.

Danzas Eurocargo has long been a Symbol user and has just invested in 2,000 palm computers which allow drivers to upload delivery data through a mobile phone in the cab.

There has been a 30% drop in enquiry rates of since introduction of the Elton (ELectronic Tracing ONline) system.
