Jersey Post trialling new feature for SecureDrop service
Jersey Post will be trialling a new extra feature to its SecureDrop service – called SecureDrop Signature – which enables all deliveries requiring a signature, including Special Delivery, to be delivered to a customer’s SecureDrop location. A unique barcode will be affixed to each customer’s SecureDrop delivery point for the postal worker to scan when an item is delivered. By scanning the barcode the postal worker registers proof of delivery at the property.
Customers can nominate a safely accessible, weatherproof location on their property as their SecureDrop location. Alternatively, they can nominate a neighbour to receive items on their behalf.
Andy Jehan, Director of Postal Operations commented: “We are aware of the significant increase in the volume of items being sent that require a signature on delivery. Feedback from our current SecureDrop customers indicates that they are happy for any type of item of mail to be left in their SecureDrop location, including those that require a signature. On this basis, we will begin trialling the service with a selected area in order to test and perfect the service.”
Customers taking part in the trial will give permission for all items requiring a signature on delivery to be left in their SecureDrop location. Once the trial has been completed and feedback incorporated, Jersey Post plans to extend the service wisland-wide later in the year.
