Walmart offering free 30-day trial of ShippingPass

US retailer Walmart announced yesterday (29 June) that it is offering customers a free 30-day trial of its ShippingPass service, which gives unlimited two-day shipping. Existing ShippingPass users will be given an extra month for free.

In a statement posted on the company website, Fernando Madeira, president and CEO, Walmart.com US, added that “starting July 1, and in the following weeks”, customers will see “some amazing items at great prices kicking in”.

Walmart said that it was offering the deals “in the spirit of Independence Day” (which falls on 4 July). However, it has escaped nobody’s notice that Amazon has announced that its second Amazon Prime Day will take place on 12 July – and that it will be offering “countdown deals” over the preceding week.

Madeira signed off yesterday’s announcement with the teaser: “We have some other ways we’re going to connect our app, site and store for customers in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.”
